overall a kewl product July 23, 2010 James B. Eckard (Minneapolis MN, USA) I was very excited to get this alarm clock. I'm a big techie and love new items like this. Overall it works as advertised and I love it.
-----good things-----
* you can actually set up and do lots of things just using your voice
* it's sturdier then it looks. I have large hands and to hit the snooze you actually have to hit/push on the clock face. I was very worried at first about fingerprints and potentially breaking it by hitting it wrong while still half asleep in the morning. But so far I have not had any problems after 3+ months.
* the alarm gets louder as it continues to ring
-----Strange things-----
* hitting the snooze and then telling it to turn off the alarm does not work. It scared the hell out of me the first day after it started ringing again after my shower. You have to actually hit the snooze a 2nd time with the alarm not going off, it will then tell you the day, date, temp. I do not remember this in the manual or other reviews mentioning this, and I found this method by chance one day.
-----bad things-----
* no way to change the color, it's either it keeps changing color or blue
* no different dimmer or brightness control, it's either full (good for daylight) or so dim (good in the dark) you can't see it in the day.
* there seems to be times, when it just can not hear you or keeps making mistakes. For instance, on occasion I have to keep repeating the set alarm function, as I'll say 6:30 am and it will hear it as something odd like 6:45 am. I'll have to repeat this like 3-5 times before it will actually get the correct time. This seems to happen like once a week.
Again, overall I'm very happy with the clock and feel it's worth the money paid. However, I'm hoping they continue to work on the issues to improve on it.
Moshi a hit with kids July 15, 2010 Kkay My son saved his pennies for this alarm clock. Loved it so much we bought one foe his cousin, she loved it too. They are 12 yrs old. Great gift idea. You really do talk to it.
does not work July 7, 2010 Beverly Megonnell It seemed like a great idea, however, it did not understand me when I tried to set the time-I said in a very clear voice what the time was and it did not get the time right-I tried 16 times! I felt this was a harbinger of more trouble to come and requested a prepaid UPS sticker to send it back, which they sent to me right away. However, they did not refund my $8.95 shipping fee. If I just changed my mind I could understand that but they should return your shipping fee on a defective item. So, beware. If it doesn't work, you are still going to pay $8.95 to find that out.
Mostly good, but a few drawbacks July 6, 2010 Martin I bought this clock for a friend with low-vision, and gave it to her a few days ago. I helped her set it up, and here's my reaction.
Setting the time was frustrating. I've set up digital clocks before, but found this one to be reluctant to work predictably.
Once we set it up, the clock understood most commands, but as others have pointed out, it mistakes the "Time" command for the "Set Alarm" command.
We were also disappointed to find out that there is no option to set the alarm for only work days.
I also read reviews that pointed out how small the instructions are, so I copied them to a document and enlarged them (and clarified some language) so my friend could read them. The instructions are also very low contrast; this is a surprise, given that many folks with low-vision must purchase this clock.
Despite these limitations, I have it four stars because it (pretty much) does what it says it will do. When/if my friend reports any other issues, I will edit my review.
UPDATE: Just as others have written in their reviews, my friend finds that her clock sometimes mixes up commands, and the inability to set the alarm for weekdays only is significant. However, she really likes the nighlight (she chose multiple colors), so who am I to argue? But if it were my alarm clock, I would return it (sadly).
For my son. July 3, 2010 Jan (Fort Worth, TX) I have a son that's an IT Specialist so I figured he would like this. He does. I like the concept.
